Material session will focus on the research filds such as the development processes and applications of functional materials that directly contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These include a wide variety of topics: polymer science, supramolecule, organic synthesis, nanomaterial, functional particle, solar cells, fuel cells, catalyst, metal complex, surface modifcation, ion liquid, computational chemistry, etc. This session also encourages students and researchers to participate in the active discussion about functional materials and make collaborative connections for the future.

There are more than 10 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to which biotechnology should actively contribute. The need for biotechnology is expected to increase in order to solve recent global social problems related to health, medicine, environment and food. This session invites a wide range of presentations in the research areas of bioscience, bioengineering and life sciences, including topics related to microorganisms, plants, animals, bioresources, food, medicine and epidemic prevention.

The feld of chemistry, which is based on the understanding and control of molecular structure, directly supports society by creating useful materials and evaluation technologies, and by providing an understanding of the function and structure of various systems, for example, from living organisms to the earth and the universe. Chemistry has also been closely related to the many environmental issues facing the world today, therefore it should be an important topic to discuss for various individuals. The session covers a wide range of chemistry-related topics, including organic and inorganic synthetic chemistry; analytical chemistry; instrumental analysis; environmental chemistry; and so on, and will provide a forum for researchers and engineers with diverse backgrounds.

As information and communication technologies advance, society is becoming more and more digitally transformed. This session includes talks on the elemental technologies used for the research, development and utilization of Digital transformation, such as Material mechanics, Production engineering, Design engineering, Fluid engineering, Thermal engineering, Mechanics, Robotics and related felds. Papers will be accepted for presentation in a wide range of areas, from basic to applied research. It is hoped that the content of this session will provide an opportunity for researchers to gain an understanding of the needs of society and help to promote the integration of researchers from Japan and abroad.

In both Society 5.0 and SDGs, the goal is to develop the economy through the utilization of the IoT, AI and Big Data, and fnd solutions for social issues, and in order to realize this goal, the promotion of Digital Transformation (DX) is an important element. These technologies are also important for strengthening cybersecurity. Various technological innovations and structural reforms are crucial in moving towards the realization of AI, IoT, and DX, and in KOSEN, it is necessary to deal with these issues widely, from foundations to application. The current session is calling widely for papers dealing with basic research or applied research in the fieds of computer science. We await proposals and case studies with examples of active social implementation of AI, IoT and DX.

This Session will provide a valuable platform for Electronics and Electrical System Engineering researchers to meet and share the latest research results on electronics, electrical and mechanical engineering theory, device applications, etc., to lead to innovative technologies. In particular, we would like to organize this as a springboard to build an opportunity to disseminate the research results of KOSEN to the world and conduct collaborative research with researchers around the world. The Session will cover a wide range of electronics, sensor, measurement control system and electrical engineering.

Ships provide a solid basis for logistics in Japan which is surrounded on all sides by the ocean and seas. Maritime technologies continue progressing in response to the scientifi advancements in science and engineering and changes in the international situation as well. This session will focus on the latest topics to contribute to the maritime technologies, aiming to promote academic and technical research in a wide range of areas including, but not limited to ocean development, maritime education, maritime safety, and the marine environment. Active involvement of researchers and students in discussion on maritime technology are also highly expected in this session.

Climate change due to global warming has been causing the extreme weather and natural disasters. Furthermore, urban population changes and advances in ICT technology demand a shift to new city planning. Therefore, it is necessary to build a society where people can live safely and comfortably through the planned and properly development of sustainable cities, infrastructure, living spaces, and natural environments, while adapting to social changes, without uncontrolled development of national land and water areas. This session aims to bring together researchers and students working on the above issues in the fieds of civil engineering, environmental engineering, and architecture to exchange and share their research results and experiences.

Green transformation (GX) is one of the essential issues concerning sustainable development worldwide. GX includes technology development and innovation and transforms economic systems such as carbon credit. Research in KOSEN is characterized by contribution to social problems based on the KOSEN network. In this session, we provide presentation, discussion, and networking opportunities on topics on environmentally conscious technologies, social implementation by invited, oral, and poster contributions by all KOSEN members, including students.

The increase in greenhouse gas emissions and the resulting extreme weather events on a global scale have created a high need for power generation technologies with low CO2 emissions and technologies that make effctive use of energy. The gap between the goal of the Paris Agreement (2015) and the target of "limiting the temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels" was confrmed at COP28. Under these circumstances, research is being conducted to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases in order to secure electricity. In this session, we expect presentations on hydrogen energy, plasma fusion, nuclear energy including plant decommissioning, and unutilized thermal energy.
